Recently purchased this and had a friend hook it up. I have the crossover set for ~70hz , the amp only powers the sub, and is wired to the speakers before it goes to the cars stock amp for the speakers.

It works, it's just significantly louder than it feels. Gain is set to about 25% (don't know what that equates to, I just turned the knob ~25%) and bass boost is turned all the way down.

Input?

what you mean by feel? its a single 12" kicker.. it aint gonna do hair tricks lol

and an improperly set gain is never a good thing. youtube has many many videos explaining how to find clip points on your reciever as well as set your gains properly with a digital multi meter

I'm not expecting hair tricks, I'm not very experienced in the sub world, I just wanted a sub, and thats what he picked for me, I just feel as if it's too loud. Maybe I'm wrong and that's how it's supposed to be.

I read and watched several guides on how to set gain, being why it's set as low as it is, I'm just curious if the sub and amp are actually fully compatible.

The amp doesn't have numbers for the gain settings being why I'm using measurements

if you are sure you are not clipping.. you could always set your volume on the head unit to where your max listening volume is and then turn the gain down till its more suitable?

I mean no disrespect, but that's literally what the YouTube videos tell me.

Back to the actual question, is there any reason to assume that the amp and sub aren't completely compatible? Do I need to disable my stock amp and wire everything to new amp? Note that stock amp is only fed to the speakers and stock sub, new amp is only fed to new sub

You're not making any sense... It's too loud? So turn the amplifier down? I don't get what you're asking? All amps and subs are compatible if its wired to the correct ohm loads... The subwoofer is rated 300w and the amplifier is rated 400w... Perfectly fine. Frank as well as myself are very good with car audio, do what he said.

I'm in a new element, not only is it hard to make sense out of something you're not familiar with, but it's also hard to explain sounds with words, can't take a recording because bass never sounds the same in playback.

I tweaked with it a bit more and I'm happy with where it's at. Thanks for the feedback fellas.
