1.) Mind the item level (ilvl) which is connected with the drop location (although I am not sure if ilvl is relevant really - at least for cubing/ rerolling I think it is)
2.) Mind the right char lvl

There is a certain lvl which works best I heard many times. But since I was never into it, I dont know for sure

May some1 knows better

This might help too: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=14786399 (I didnt read/ I'm too lazy)

Good luck

I always imbue 3 grim helms at clvl 90, as a personal reward for reaching the 9X club.
I got one good in the past (not very good nor excellent).
Even at high clvl, the probability to roll juicy mods is still low as f**k, just like on drops actually.
I believe it was designed to be used before fighting andariel, as a useful reward rather than a valuable one.

Nothing changes past lvl 80 btw

Ilvl 84 is required for colossus mod aka clvl 80 for imbue on exceptional helms which is the highest possible mod for the helm, imbueing at 90 changes nothing.

The only thing that starts to improve in the 90's is chances for more staff mods on scepters wands and staves

Actually, some sources (including the link SIVIART posted above) state that reaching a specific lvl does not just unlock new mod tiers, it additionally increases the chances to roll higher tiers (relatively to lower ones).
No idea if true though, nor how far it changes the deal, and who knows, maybe such system applies to all item generations (drops, cube, gambling, other quest rewards).

Unfortunately rare items dont work like that, you can read the affix selection section of this article here as an introduction. Affixes are selected randomly from the available pool at the item level, however some affixes have a lesser chance of spawning than others, this is unrelated to item level. The exact same way soj drops less than manald, is not level depedant

Also a 1000% better imbue guide, see the classic section:

Honestly, i feel like a dynamic weighting system sounds tortured indeed (though it would be a cool thing, making drops above the max alvl actually more rewarding).
However, in the specific case of imbuing, Zodijackyl purely inventing that sounds tortured aswell.
I guess the only way to be sure would be to inspect the actual code data, wish i had enough time for that.

What in the actual fuck does tortured mean in that context?
