A ton of olympians are dropping out due to Coronavirus and obviously fans are already not permitted.

My question - Why didn't they just require everyone get there and quarantine for 2 weeks ahead of time in Tokyo? Or have extremely closed off practice facilities?

Instead, Americans were doing things in Vegas and others all around the world testing positive, risking the importance and talent at the olympics. Why?

Because the Olympic opening rounds have already started, with opening ceremonies on Friday. The real issue is, why Japan was so slow to roll out the vaccine, especially considering they host the (year-long delayed) 2020 Olympics. You'd think the slant eyed bastards would be smarter at info structure.

also i mean with an entire village already being built to house everyone, they should've been able to just go into full bubble mode like the NBA did last year at disneyworld

yea prob could've been done better, but there are WAY more ppl in the Olympic Games than the NBA playoffs

China alone has as many athletes as the entire NBA player roster

logistically would be extremely difficult and super expensive and would require the unlikely collaboration of every country in the Games

I think the problem was that other events need to happen and athletes get paid by sponsors to go

the olympics been postponed also canceled a ton of world events in other countries

Answer is money.

Japan lost almost $6B USD when they were postponed. Canceling altogether would mean a nearly $50B USD loss.

Host stands to lose the most, but every other country has Olympic trials which are like a mini olympics.
