Daryl Morey on radio today:
-If you trade one of these star players for multiple [role players], it doesn't really work out that well. -
@dmorey
on getting the right deal for Simmons. He also mentioned the Barkley trade as an example to why you don't trade for parts
-If you think not trading Ben burns away the season. You are burning more than just this season if you make a trade that makes you feel better that doesn't make you significantly better -
@dmorey
This is EXACTLY what i've been saying in recent days rofl.
All of these people talking about "just trade him, take a trade, etc" are clueless. What the fuck does that do for the team? Okay, so you trade Simmons for role players or solid/good players but not All-Star or star caliber. So you're still not winning it all without another star to help Embiid, and not only that but you probably fuck up chances for adding that star in future seasons because now you're stuck with the lesser talented players you just traded for (unless you conduct yet another trade).
So really what do they have to lose? Morey 100000% gets it and i absolutely love it, while these casuals demanding that Simmons be traded for a bag of chips can't comprehend this type of outlook. Morey wants to win a Championship and trading Simmons for dog shit doesn't get you there and only complicates things in the future. Hanging on to Simmons doesn't get you there either, but you aren't automatically screwing yourself for the future either. You're in the same spot in either situation, so there's nothing to lose by hanging on to him until the off-season.
