Going to agree with this for the most part. The thing is getting shredded is mostly diet.

Here's the thing... You aren't going to look like Frank Zane doing resistance training. You can certainly tone up and develop a decent foundation and even look good with the proper diet. Sounds like the guy is on a carnivore diet. Shawn Baker and Paul Saladino are some great sources for that. If you can't get rid of carbs check out Stan Efferding. He's a great source of nutrition. Depending on the size of the guy and how lean he is, he could be on the sauce. You'd be surprised who does shit.
The X3 system is about some of the best bands you can get, but there are much cheaper options. IMO though free weights will always be superior. Its a cycle... Eat a lot of food and lift HEAVY. Then cut...
