Groups are done.

Finals have begun.

As always, the WSM organizers are preventing any footage from being shown and they're not live streaming shit so all we're getting are results from youtube channels.

Groups Info
Novikov didn't make the finals despite being the 2020 WSM.

Brian Shaw coming out of his group really strong, only needing the minimum points in the front hold to make the finals. After his 5th place last year, it seems he took the lesson he needed, worked on his movement events and leaned out a bit. He's going for his 5th title!

Both Tom and Luke Stoltman made it to the finals. Tom seems rather dominant this year, but Luke is actually doing quite good himself.

Mark Felix at 55 years old actually did rather good in the groups and unfortunately ended up in a stone off to see if he could make the finals, but went up against a pretty great stone lifter. Too bad, this guy still puts up a fight after all these years.

Finals Info
So far it seems JF Caron is injured right out of the gate on event one. No official confirmation whether he's out for the rest of the contest or not yet.

Brian came in 3rd on event one. An event that typically would have cost him points seeing how slow he normally is. This is a good start for him.

Tom Stoltman fucking blasting event 1.

Unofficial spread sheet with times/points: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1baIZ10WrO6PSCJltb7pE8PdtVTf3whPMY_Nhbvcj3UE/htmlview?pru=AAABekozV_8*WKzi6Xrfsg0LTTsEYb2Ovw#

I'll report back with more info when it's available.

P.S.: Kinda lame that this sub forum has zero fucking mention of this event.

Finals Event 2
Another win for Tom! A convincing one too. That's 2 wins out of 2 events so far. Final event tomorrow is the atlas stone and that's pretty much a guaranteed win for him there...yikes. Tom might win this year.

Brian taking second which in any other context would be a very consistent high placement. But right now he's being eclipse by Tom. It's not looking good for Brian's 5th win. Barring an injury for Tom or a serious underperformance in log/deadlift.

Luke is tied for points in second place overall with Brian after event 2. Would be kinda cool to see two brothers on the podium.

JF Caron apparently not out yet but is way down in 7th place overall currently.

Yea it's a bit weird. But it's a strength competition. If you're the weaker man on the day, you gotta deal with that.

He underperformed in groups :(

Finals Event 3 (Keg Toss)
With 5 guys tied at 6.75 meters, middle of the pack points are pretty tight.

Tom and Maxime Boudreault tied for second.

Brian in first with a world record toss at 7.75 meters.

Tomorrow is going to be pivotal with the Log, deadlift and stones. Brian needs to be a top contending in log and deadlift and hope for Tom to make a mistake there if he wants any chance of winning this year.

Finals Event 4 (Max log)
Tom losing a lot of points here! You'd think having a brother who can almost do a world record log would help him get a strong log himself.

Brian in a 3-way tie at 195kg

Luke with the win at 215 KG!

Trey Mitchell refusing to be counted out. A solid 3-way tie at 205kg.

Finals Event 5 (350kg DL for reps)
Tom with 8 reps which would normally be a good showing actually only gets him 4.5 points!

Huge 3-way tie at 10 reps between Trey, JF and Adam Bishop. JF with a fucking hamstring issue doing 10 is just nuts.

Brian at 9 reps. This puts him 1 point away from Tom with only the Atlas stones to go!

Finals Event 6 (Atlas Stones)

This is still underway. Current standings are incredibly close. Important to note this year is without Mateus, Martins and Novikov.

If Brian does better than Tom at stones (not super likely, but not impossible) we're looking at a very rare #1 tie. The tie-breaking is the fastest time on stones so this would give Brian the win.

Insane finals!

The results are in!

Here are the final standings:

Congrats to Tom for obliterating everyone else in the stones. Proving once again no one can even get close to him there currently.

Too bad Brian's not gonna get a 5th title, but 2nd place at his age is still insane.

JF in 5th, but Maxime in 3rd! Passing of the torch. Nice to see a Canadian on the podium this year again.

Very strong showing from Trey. Guy's still very young and has a lot of potential.

Read the whole thread, thanks for recapping!

Too bad Caron isn't performing well or is injured. Even something small at the beginning takes a massive toll on the whole competition.

Sounds like Shaw had a good shot at it based on your recap, too bad he might not have the final stretch push to take another. Hard to watch since Hafthor and Eddie don't compete anymore, it was fun watching those three.

Nice to see another Canadian making noise! are you from north of the 49th too?

Why would they not live stream it?

Brian Shaw seems like a fierce competitor from what I’ve seen.

Felix is crazy too, especially for his age
