I walked around on a completely torn Achilles for 8 weeks. Not quite sure what happened, as it was a simple jump that I've performed many times, up a halfpipe at the trampoline park. I thought it was just badly sprained.
The ultrasound revealed almost 4cm between the torn ends. Surgery was four weeks ago. They had to take a tendon from my big toe and also pulled the calf muscle down to help reconstruct it.
Two weeks in a splint, 2 weeks in a cast. Now 2 weeks in a boot. After these two weeks, I can try putting weight on the leg.
Yesterday I was given the go ahead to perform just one exercise to slowly prepare for physical therapy in June.
Three times a day I take off the boot and merely dorsiflex 15 times. It is tender and often stings deep.
I don't want to share gruesome pictures of the stitches that go all the way up the back of my calf,
but this picture of my legs serves well to illustrate the stark contrast between them.
Walk with me as I struggle down the path to regaining my mobility, no pun intended.
