Some people don't take the game too seriously. A lot of people use bots, to find gear, and rush their own characters. That way, the risk is really quite small. And then when they "win" (which isn't really winning), they brag about it and act toxic as away to bully others.
But fundamentally, i play hardcore, i find it much more fun than softcore. I don't play pvp though. I could imagine playing pvp, maybe for lower level dueling. But investing 2-3 weeks to build a character to level 85-90, and then lose it in a duel, is too much sacrifice for me i think.
The deal about hardcore is that you just have to be sure that every step forward you take, you are ready for what comes. You must know all the traps. And it makes it much more fun. You cannot get too relaxed or lazy or the risk increases.
