Yes, that's why there's a police force... to serve and protect in private disputes that escalate to a violation of the law. If a stranger flies off the handle and kills you, that sucks but they're not duty bound not to kill you... cops on the other hand are.
Bound by duty not to kill you? Nope cops have just as much right to live as anyone else and if they have to kill someone to ensure their own safety I say go for it. Bottom line is police killing are very rare compared to other killings and MOST are justified and would not have happened if compliance was given or the law was followed.
