I built my pc about 3 years ago and want to upgrade the Ram.
My motherboard is an msi mpg x570 gaming edge.
Im not cp building literate.
My friend helped me build it.

Can i just get new ram, take the old out, new ones in?
Are there any steps i have to take.

Should be fine, get some ddr4 ram, looks like any mhz will work for that motherboard, and put them in the same slots you took the old ones out of.

Assuming it's 64 bit system, that shouldn't be an issue

It may be a better bang for your dollar to upgrade the SSD to a Samsung 980 Pro / WD Black SN850, or get a newer high-end video card. If you are looking better performance, a Windows 10 refresh or reinstall would also be affordable and likely give you a noticeable performance improvement (remember to backup your files to an external drive or cloud, needless to say). You can also check the Windows 10 Task Manager, press CTRL + SHIFT + DEL, for how much ram memory you are actually using vs. how much you have available. You could be using a max of 3-4 GB on average, and having 16 GB more that won't be utilized may not do much for you. As always, build around the software or games you intend to be running.

You could post a screenshot of your current specs with Speccy, from the same folks that created CCleaner.

Good build. It also helps you to track it on an excel doc if you have it. I would put OS on the Samsung SSD.

What's the CAS latency on the ram? For example, compare the last 3 characters on the memory serial, C18 vs C16. Go for C16 if you can. After installing it, verify on BIOS that its running at desired effective speed, such as 3600 MHz. XMP profiles on BIOS will help you.

Uh...given the fact that the CPU is a AMD Ryzen 2700X, I don't think it'll benefit from using SSD Gen4. Probably just SSD Gen3.

Also, if you're a gamer and not a CAD or graphic model user, you are ok with 16GB RAM. Probably just buy new RAM with increased speed (MHz) at the same 16GB.

I looked at your GPU the second time, and noticed PCIe Gen4 speed...it's probably being bottle-necked by your CPU.
