i've had this computer for 3 years.
gpu 1060 6gb
cpu i5-6600k
ram-16gigs.

other night i got a power surge (it's surge protected) and since then my computer has been slowing down massively to the point it's unusable.

So far I've run a gpu, cpu, ram, and harddrive test and everything turned up ok.
I ran multiple scans for viruses then just went ahead and factory reset my windows in case.
I've run it with just the one harddrive attached.

none of it made any difference, until I unplugged my second monitor. now everything runs smoothly. I've since swapped which monitor was plugged in and it still works fine I replaced both cables in case but whenever I plug both in all hell breaks loose and my computer grinds to a halt.

anyone have any ideas?

You should probably replace the surge protector, since it doesn't look like it's doing its job.

Does your motherboard have built-in graphics? The i5-6600K should have built-in graphics, so if the motherboard has a video-out port on its back I/O shield, maybe run your second monitor through that and see what happens?

motherboard has built in graphics but uses a cable i don't have i'll need to borrow one from a buddy tomorrow. but ya i did swap out that surge protector as it's probably not useful anymore.
