The community thought it was decent - good, & a potentially good launch-point for the rest of the trilogy. Despite it being, to some degree, a re-hash of episode 4. (Individual who’s strong in the force, stuck on a desert planet, dreaming of something greater, who finds information pivotal to a rebellion, from a droid, that the enemy faction desperately wants.) This obviously didn’t pan out. Nobody thought it was amazing. Episode 6 is generally considered the least favorite of the OT.
Sure...... that's what people say now, but that's not even remotely what was being said when it came out lol. The freaking film had over a 9 on IMDB when I went to see it, which shockingly has drastically fallen since the other two titles have come out (shocked face). As far as E6 goes, yes, it's the worst film in a series lauded as the best trilogy in film history. Doesn't make a lot of sense if 33% and the most important part of the trilogy is a joke from start to finish? Again, outside one movie, SW has always been fairly mediocre. If you remove TLJ, which to be fair was an absolute fucking disaster, the latest series was better than the prequels. On top of that, E4 was just ripping off other people's ideas and having other directors make it palatable, while E5 was the only thing that was a truly fantastic film. Unpopular opinions for sure, but SW fans are always going to bitch and moan if everything isn't 100% perfect, which it'll never be, since their views of the original series are completely distorted to begin with.
