Interested to see peoples opinions on what pre-workouts, if any, you use if you're on a fasting style "diet." I've started to workout, fast and eat healthier and I'm already seeing benefits after a week or two but I would like to have that extra pump/motivation to go in and make things happen in the gym.

However, I've seen multiple articles on it being bad or having no effect on a fasting lifestyle. I've seen some articles stating if you're not fasting for medical/religious and only fasting to lose weight then most pre-workouts don't have enough sugar/BCAA/artificial sweetener in them to cause the body a spike in insulin which would break the fast.

Just take caffeine pills if u want a form of pre. Then you don’t have to worry about calories at all and get basically the same effect.

The only good reason for a fast though is restricting your time to eat therefore it should theoretically be harder for you to consume as much. It all comes down to calories in vs calories out and protein intake.

If your end goal is to build more muscle mass, fasting is not the way to go.

But if you want more of a pump or drive in the gym, I would suggest working out after you've eaten.

Or better yet, if your fasting window is large enough, eat something small and easily digested, such as cream of

rice or oatmeal beforehand with a bit of protein, shake some salt on it and enjoy that pump, then finish off with your final

meals after.

From your post it seems that you require a pre workout for its placebo benefit of motivation. if you are looking for compounds that could provide a stimulant benefit while fasting try black coffee, green tea, ginseng,
