Quick Rules

• Both sides must post "confirm" or an abbreviation such as "cd" in a betting thread (not a pm) before the game starts for a bet to be official.

• Example of an official bet: https://i.imgur.com/63iqmdU.png -Note how the details are absolutely clear, and both sides confirmed the bet. This is a good bet.

• If you would like, you can use an unofficial sports coliseum mediator. These people volunteer to hold fg from both sides of a bet and pay out after the game concludes. Using a mediator safeguards against getting welched.

• List of mediators:• Most mediators will not hold fg from welchers (welchers are people who have overbet and/or failed to pay their bets in the past). It is recommended that you avoid betting with welchers altogether.

• For a list of welchers, click here: https://sig.grumpybumpers.com/host/BettorsList.gif

• These rules apply only to NFL/MLB/NBA subforums and do not apply anywhere else.

• Betting fg is not supported by d2jsp. Site moderators may not help you if you are welched, though some have posted successful scammer accusations in the past (they're inconsistent).

Making Bets on JSP

Formatting Normal Bets

• At a minimum, both sides must say "confirm" or an abbreviation such as "cd" somewhere in the thread.

• Ideally, you should be as explicit as possible with your bets. Include the wager, spread, odds, and any other stipulations in your post (first/second half only, in-game bet, no welchers, etc.).

• Ideally, you should quote or restate the bet that you are confirming in your confirmation post. This makes it so that the person you're betting against cannot edit their post, making it look like you are confirming a bet that you did not agree to.

• Ideally, you should quote the other person saying "confirm" or "cd" after they confirm your bet. This makes it so that they cannot easily edit their post after the game starts, making it look like they never confirmed your bet. You could just quote their confirmation and say "good luck" if you already confirmed the bet.

• Common abbreviations: cd, c/d, c'd = confirmed... ac, a/c, a'c = auto-confirm... uf or u/f = up-front

• Bets confirmed via private message are unofficial as far as the bettors list is concerned. All bets must be posted in a thread to be considered official.

• The lone exception to the "cd" rule is in sportsbook threads. All bets placed in a sportsbook thread are implicitly confirmed by both sides, so stating confirmation is superfluous and unnecessary. Failing to pay a lost bet will still result in a welcher tag despite the absence of stated confirmation. For this rule, sportsbook threads will be defined as any thread that takes bets on opposite sides for every game in a given day.

Auto-Confirmed Bets

• Sometimes, people will "auto-confirm" or "ac" bets so that they don't have to check the thread before game start. This means that anyone who confirms or cd's their bet is automatically confirmed by the person offering the bet as long as they meet certain requirements (if there are any requirements).

• Like any other bet, anyone who sends a bet up-front must also confirm the bet in-thread. Merely sending up-front to auto-confirm without stating in-thread that the bet is confirmed will not constitute a valid bet.

• Take caution when using the auto-confirm method of betting. Without stipulations, this means that anyone can confirm your bet. You may want to limit who can confirm your bets by excluding welchers or unknown accounts. As a solution to this, you could stipulate that bets are only auto-confirmed if the forum gold is sent from an active+ user, if the forum gold is sent up-front, or if the fg is sent to a mediator.

• When using the auto-confirm method of betting, it is very important to set a maximum amount of action that you are willing to take. Because it is not always clear to other bettors how much forum gold you actually own, they may send you more fg than you can bet, causing problems for both parties involved.

• If you make a thread auto-confirming bets and then reach your max in another thread, make sure to mention in your old thread that you are no longer taking action. Otherwise, someone might take you up on the auto-confirmed bet that you forgot about, forcing you to go over your max and overbet. (overbetting is welching)

• When betting with someone who is auto-confirming bets, assume that they will not be online again to manually confirm bets before the game starts. This means that not sending up-front on a bet that says "a/c once sent up-front" will leave the bet unconfirmed, which will disappoint both parties involved. In this situation, it would be courteous to post "sent [amount] up front" or post your gold log, just to signal to the OP and everyone else that you have confirmed the bet.

• Another caution with auto-confirmed bets: don't send up-front to just anyone! Check to make sure they are trustworthy, and don't send to anyone who seems like a multi. This has lost many people fg over the years.

Timeframe to Confirm Bets

• Generally, all bets must be confirmed by both parties before the game starts. Otherwise, there is no bet. There are exceptions to this rule, however.

• Some bets can take place as a game is in-progress. These bets are tricky, as the score is constantly at risk of changing. It is important to set a timeframe when offering an in-game bet, such as "cd within the next 2 minutes" or "cd before the second half starts," or a similar stipulation. Otherwise, it can lead to disagreement if someone confirms the bet later than you would have liked.

• You cannot retract an in-game bet once both sides confirm. If you want to retract before someone else confirms, it's best to quote yourself and say retract. It is also extremely important to quote everything during in-game bets, as bettors can try to weasel their way out of an in-game bet by editing their confirmed post, which is welching. Quote the bets you are confirming.

Retracting Bets

• Sometimes, it becomes necessary to retract a bet. This might because you run the risk of overbetting. In any case, it is allowed that users can retract a bet any time before the game starts.

• The exception to the above rule is if a bettor has a "retract = auto-loss" clause in their bet. These bets cannot be retracted by either side without forfeiting the wagered forum gold.

• To retract a bet, you must post "retract" in the actual betting thread before the game starts. Bets cannot be retracted after the game starts (or after a single game has started for parlays/teasers). Simply pm'ing the person will not suffice; it must be posted in-thread.

• The sooner the better with retracting bets: it allows the other user more time to go look for a new bet. Sending a pm is a courteous thing to do.

• Bets that are being mediated can be retracted. However, it is important that you pm the moderator ASAP that the bet has been retracted to avoid accidental payout.

• Although you are usually allowed to retract bets, it is generally considered bad-mannered to do so. Retracting a bet because you found a slightly better spread in another thread is not a good reason to retract—this is bm.

Betting Forum Gold

• You can only bet forum gold that you currently have on your account and which belongs solely to you. You cannot bet forum gold that is due to someone else, and you cannot bet more forum gold than you currently have or own.

• Forthcoming forum gold that you expect to have is not officially yours until it is on your account. You cannot bet forum gold until it is on your account. What happens if you get welched? You welch the other person.

• The exception to the above is if you sent up-front to the other bettor or to a mediator.

• If you bet more forum gold than you have and own, then this is called overbetting. Anyone who confirms a bet while overbetting automatically loses all active confirmed bets regardless of outcome and will be welcher tagged.

• Sometimes, people will bet other goods vs. forum gold (such as a signature or MtGO tickets). This is a valid bet, even though the person will have to produce the item before it can be sent.

Sending/Receiving Forum Gold

• After the game has concluded, the loser should send their forum gold the next time they log on to jsp. If you are actively using jsp but do not send the winner his/her fg, then you run the risk of being welcher-tagged.

• If a user has not logged on for 24 hours after losing their bet, then they run the risk of being welcher-tagged. It is your responsibility to remember to login and pay out your bets in a timely manner.

• If someone is late in sending you your winnings, do not automatically make a welcher accusation thread. Instead, politely remind them via private message that they made a bet with you. If they do not respond despite logging on, then you can proceed to alert everyone of a possible welch.

Using a mediator

• Sports Coliseum mediators are free to use. These are trusted users who have volunteered to receive forum gold between bettors and pay out once the bet concludes.

• When selecting a mediator, first make sure that the mediator has logged on relatively recently (if you check their profile and notice that they have not logged on in several days, choose a more active mediator).

• Next, inform the person with whom you are betting that you would like to use a mediator. As a courtesy, you could link this person's profile so that the other user doesn't have to go searching for them.

• Next, send your forum gold to the mediator. In the gold log, provide the name of the other bettor, the game, and the spread or odds.

• Next, check to make sure the other person has sent to the mediator before the game has started. Posting gold logs in the thread is a good way to do this.

• If both users send to a mediator before the game starts, then the bet is confirmed (even if the users did not post "confirmed").

• Both users must send to the mediator before the game starts. If one user is late, the bet is null, and the forum gold will be returned.

• Once the game concludes, the mediator will pay out as soon as possible (usually soon after the game ends). Some mediators handle a lot of bets, while others have busy lives outside of jsp, so it might take several hours before you're paid out. Just be patient.

• List of mediators:• These mediators are only for the NFL/MLB/NBA forums. Other forums likely have their own unofficial mediators.

Handling a Welch

• If you've tried to contact the other user and they have not responded to your pm, or if you see that they have overbet, then contact a sports coliseum mediator and let them know. Jadeoshbogosh is a good person to contact if you think you've been welched.

• Do not immediately jump to the conclusion that the person with whom you are betting has welched just because they did not pay you immediately after the game has ended. Be patient. Don't make an ass out of yourself by complaining that you haven't been paid out immediately.

• If you have been welched, you may try to contact the site moderators and make a scammer accusation. Although betting is not officially supported by d2jsp's site rules, site moderators still sometimes lock people for welching bets (they are inconsistent, however). You are unlikely to ever see your fg ever again, however, which is why it is recommended that you use a sports coliseum mediator when betting with unfamiliar people.

Paying Back a Welch

• If you have welched someone, you may pay that person back and move to Welcher Paid-Back status. This is unless you have already welched or overbet in the past, in which case you may be permanently blacklisted.

• It is your responsibility to find your own welch thread. A good place to start would be contacting Jadeoshbogosh, who has a record of recent welches.

• Once you have determined the amount you owe and found the person you welched, you can pay back that person and show Jadeoshbogosh your gold log. If the person whom you welched is now locked, a freeroll will be held with your stolen forum gold. In either case, once the forum gold is returned, you will be moved to Welcher Paid-Back status.

Betting 101

Betting terminology

Sports-betting carries with it a lot of jargon, so below I will define some common terms that you are likely to encounter.

• Sportsbook: Bettors refer to what's called a "sportsbook" to provide a baseline on the spreads and moneylines for various sporting games. http://www.vegasinsider.com/http://www.vegasinsider.com/[/URL] tends to be the most-referenced website around here for spreads, lines, and start times, since their information is an aggregate of many different sportsbooks.

• Spread: Sometimes abbreviated "ATS" for "against the spread," this is the amount of points that are added or subtracted to the final score. After the spread is applied to the final score of a game, the adjusted total determines the winner. This is best illustrated with an example. Let's say the official spread on a game is Cleveland +14 vs. Baltimore. If I were to bet on Cleveland, then I would add 14 points to Cleveland's final score. If that total is greater than Baltimore's score, then I would win the bet. Alternately, if I were to bet on Baltimore, the spread would be Baltimore -14. Thus, I would subtract 14 points from Baltimore's final score, and if this total is greater than Cleveland's score, I would win the bet. In either case, if Baltimore wins by exactly 14, then the bet is considered a "push" with no winner (both sides are refunded their wager). A lot of times, you will see spreads with .5 points: this is to eliminate the possibility of a push. Overtime always counts toward the final score unless stated otherwise.

• Moneyline: A bet without a spread often uses what's called a moneyline (ML). The moneyline represents the adjusted payout for a wager based on their odds to win. Moneylines are represented in one of two ways: American odds format and decimal odds format.

• American odds format: Uses lines like -110 to represent how much you need to wager in order to win 100. If a line is -110, then you need to risk 110 to win 100. If a line is +120, then you risk 100 to win 120. To calculate your winnings using this format, divide your wager by the absolute value of the odds. So a wager of 548 on the Ravens @ -160 gets you 342.50 units because 548/1.6 = 342.5

• Decimal odds format: Uses decimals to represent the odds for payout. If the odds are 1.35 to 1, then 135 is being risked to win 100. If you are betting the low side of a decimal bet, then you simply multiple by the odds, 1.35, to determine your winnings. If you are betting the high side of a bet, then you divide by the odds, 1.35, to determine your winnings.

• Vig or Juice: When using a sportsbook, this is the amount the book/bookie takes from your winnings. On an even bet, the line is usually -110 for each side. That extra -10 is the juice, or the little extra amount you give up in order to bet with the bookie. When making bets with most users on this forum, no juice is involved.

• Runline (RL): In baseball, the score will be adjusted by 1.5 runs in order to compensate for a steep moneyline. It operates like a spread.

• Hedging: Taking the other side of a bet to guarantee a profit. Usually done in response to a futures bet possibly hitting or in response to a parlay possibly hitting.

• Hook: the extra .5 point to break a tie.

• Off the Board or OTB: A game that has been removed for the purposes of betting with a sportsbook.

• No-action or push: A bet with no winner, or a bet in which no money is lost or won.

Types of Bets

• ML: Bets that are made using the moneyline odds for that game.

• ATS: Bets that are made against a point spread.

• Over/Under or O/U: A bet that is made against the total score for a game being Over or Under a certain amount.

• Prop bet: A bet with a proposition that a certain outcome will or will not be met. Examples: Tom Brady will throw O/U 289.5 yards; Ezekiel Elliott O/U .5 rushing TDs; O/U 1.5 made field goals in a game; etc.

• Futures: A bet that predicts a future outcome, such as a player award (MVP winner) or a conference champion.

• Parlay: A bet that has multiple lines/legs as part of one single bet. Unless stated otherwise, all legs of the parlay must hit in order for the bet to cash.

• Teaser: A bet that is similar to a parlay, but the betting lines are inflated, and the payout odds are lower.

• In-game or live-action: Bets that are placed while a game is in-progress.

• Snake bets: Going head to head, two users trade-off on selecting games to win. Whoever gets the most correct wins the bet. Picks are usually done in a serpentine order (ABBAABBAAB...)

• Blind Odds: A single game is chosen, and unless stated otherwise, no spread is applied. Users submit secret amounts of forum gold to the blind odds host. After the game starts, the amount wagered on each side is revealed. The winning side receives an amount of winnings dependent on how much was wagered on the other side.

The Bettors' List

• This feature of the sports forums is ran completely by regulars of the community. Betting is not supported by d2jsp's site rules, so this is how we police ourselves.

Types of Tags

There are 7 tiers of users organized by the bettors' list:
Trusted: Trusted users are users who have bet here consistently for many, many years without issue. There is no higher bettor tag than the trusted tag.
Mediator: Same as the trusted tag, except these users have volunteered to mediate bets.
Active: Users who have bet here consistently for at least a couple years without issue. Active users are generally trustworthy, but if you ever have concerns, use a mediator.
Unknown: Users who have not used this site consistently enough to have a clear track record. Everyone starts here. Use common sense when betting with someone you do not know and trust.
Welcher Paid-Back: These are users who have either overbet or welched in the past, yet they have paid back their welch to the user who was owed fg.
Welcher: These are people who have overbet and/or owe someone fg. Don't expect payment from a welcher should you choose to bet with them.
Blacklist: Users who have overbet or welched on multiple occasions.

Gaining Rep, Nomination, and Voting Processes

• By making frequent bets, paying out on-time, helping new users, and generally being a frequent poster on the NFL/NBA/MLB forums, users will gain reputation as good-mannered bettors. To recognize people for their reliable betting history, we have created Active and Trusted/Mediator tags.

• To nominate users for Active, for Trusted, or for removal from the Welcher Paid-Back list, we have created a Discord server.

• How to access the Discord server: Go to https://discordapp.com/ to begin. Click the "Download" button in the top left of the page, near the Discord emblem. Discord app can be downloaded for mobile or desktop, or you can open it in a browser without downloading the app. Once downloaded, click on "login" at the top right of the screen. Select "register" near the bottom of the login page. You will be prompted to enter a valid email address/password. Once you've completed signing up and you're ready to join the Football and Rugby Discord server, PM either Jadeoshbogosh or Gilly and one of them will provide you with a link that allows you to join once clicked.

• Alternately, if you do not wish to use the Discord server, you may post your nominations in this discussion thread, which has been pinned to the Discord server.

• Using the Discord server or the nomination thread: anyone can nominate users who deserve consideration for a given tag. Useful information that you should consider adding with your nomination includes betting threads, gold logs, and instances where the user was helpful to someone else. Alternately, you can offer evidence of why someone should not be considered for a given tag by providing similar evidence. You cannot nominate yourself.

• Once per year, the Trusted members of the forum will vote on which users should receive an upgraded tag based on the nominations in the Discord server. To be upgraded to an Active tag, the user must receive 75% of the votes. To receive a Trusted tag, the user must receive 90% of the votes. To be removed from WPB, the user must receive 90% of the votes.

• Things that will not help your consideration for Active status: Clamoring for active/trusted, nominating yourself, demanding FG up-front for bets, refusing to use mediators, and generally shady/BM betting practices.

Demotion
• Bettors can be demoted for various reasons, breaking rules and inactivity being chief among them.

• Demotions for inactivity (based on recent posts) are as follows:
Mediator > Trusted: 1 month
Trusted > Active: 1 year
Active > Unknown: 1 year

Bettor Script

• Testiclese has created the following extension to reveal users' betting tags on jso. It works on Firefox and Chrome: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=81709948&f=204&o
