i think i have issues with my ram.

fps drops like crazy in games. low and or high specs.
ive completely leaned out the pc fans
gpu was taken apart completely and cleaned.
cpu cooler was cleaned. i installed new thermal paste to both. optimized a few diff things.
still have issues. my pc also freezes and such when opening programs. or fails to open them completely. but once they are open its all fine and dandy.
temps are good on cpu. mobo.gpu. and the hdd
i also noticed. my mobo supports 16 gb. so i have 2 8 gb sticks in there for total of 16. when i open pc info it says i have 8?
is one of my ram sticks bad?
i removed them and blew out the area. re seated them. re started pc still shows 8 gb. when i open system information it says following

installed physical memory (RAM) 8GB
total physical memory 7.98
available physical memory 5.38
total virtual memory 16
page file space 7.98

so is it showing that iu have 16 gb ram? or is something wrong showing only 8 gb is installed..
also i checked and my setting arent set to cap my memory either.

im kind of thinking i may just need a new pc. but its kind of like issues started all at once.

Page file is virtual memory this is done by using the HD as additional ram.
Its extremely slow compared to actual ram when used.

Either the ram stick is bad or its the slot, move things around and test it.

ok, im going to swap them and see what happens. i was hoping there would be a way ( on the pc) to see if there was error or something with the slots. ill be back...

ok so i removed one stick of ram. and rebooted pc. checking info and it said installed physical memory 4.0 gb ......
so i shut it down swapped that stick over to the other restarted and the same thing..

shut down pc. removed that stick and put the other stick into the 1st slot. rebooted again and said sam thing. shut down and swapped slots. rebooted and said same thing. all said only 4 gb was installed.. from a 8 gb stick

total physical memory was 3.98 all 4 times i swapped the sticks around.
available physical memory was anywhere from 2.5 to 2.88 gb all 4 swapped times.

so its showing from both slots that ram is installed. but not showing correctly?

now with both in, it shows 8 gb once again.

Sry I misread above, so you have 8gb ram and both sticks work.
I would format pc to rule out software issues with OS.

If your loading issues persist we will test HD and ram.

one thing im confused about is why it shows half ?
even with 1 stick. system info shows half that sticks total gb..

also ive used speccy before/.. and i could have sworn it showed to sets of
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 ram sticks. but now shows only 1 set

Each stick is 4gb.
4x 2 = 8gb
page file is 8gb

page+ram = 16gb

Th system is reserving some for its usage hence "available physical memory 5.38"

Nothing is wrong aside from you obv issues which imo at this point is probably the OS.
IF you have not move to windows 10.

have not done that yet. also i noticed im on the extremely lower end side of the mhz speed in the ram.
an upgrade in speed would probably help. but to answer , no i have not upgraded to windows 10 yet. do you ACTUALY think that will improve performace? even though this pc was built possibly 6 year ago.

and how would a good working pc just start havig issues. once a new os came out?
not being an ass.

Ram speed while impactful isn't going to make or break a pc these days, maybe 25 years ago.
Yes I think going to windows 10 will feel better once you get used to the changes.
Older OS's are no longer supported. Many things can contribute to the OS becoming corrupt.

okay. well i honestly think it would be more beneficial to just upgrade everything all together and et passed the issues of this. as this pc is well old enough for replacement.
i honestly just want a new pc. i dont want to sink any money into this one if it wont be beneficial or at least a worthy upgrade.
