The Act
2019
8 episodes

"The Act is an American true crime drama television series that premiered in eight parts on March 20, 2019, on Hulu. The plot is based on the real life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who was accused of abusing her daughter by fabricating illness and disabilities as a direct consequence of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.[1] Joey King portrayed Gypsy, while Patricia Arquette played her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. AnnaSophia Robb, Chloƫ Sevigny, and Calum Worthy also star."

I just finished this show in less than 48 hours. I have to say its one of the most dramatic show i ever watched. This is based on a true story and this adds a lot of emotion to this show. Even if i was sure what would happen ... i felt so surprised how, why and when this finally happened. Joey King here plays an incredible psychologic metamorph !

About the feeling at the end of this show ... i would say i feel like at the end of the two movies about Sylvia Likens An American Crime and The Girl Next Door (both from 2007). I realy feel bad and devastated about this story and how this show turned this story in fiction.

I highly recommand this show !

My girl made me watch that with her like a week ago.

It is a pretty solid show. We watched the documentary too afterwards. They nailed her character in the show.

Which was better? I want to watch this, but a little nervous knowing how fucking depressing it's going to be.

Where'd you stream btw? I haven't bothered looking it up yet.

I wanna say we had to rent it on Prime but I could be wrong.

The reenactment was definitely better. It surprised me tbh. I would give it a solid 7.5-8/10. The documentary was solid too and it was cool seeing how well they played some of the characters and scenes in the show.

It is disturbing. Not in a graphic way but seeing mental abuse of kids always hits me in the feels. It gets pretty strange at times too.

anyone who doesn't want to invest the time for 8 episodes should at least check out the doc. It's much shorter (obviously) and this is a story that everyone should be familiar with.

For those who like The Act, i highly recommand you Sharp Object (2018) with a brillant Amy Adams ! Thats also a mini-serie of 8 episodes.

Must've been living under a rock or in a perpetually inebriated state when this happened. Never heard of this story before reading this post. Watched the Act plus the documentary. Crazy how well the characters portrayed the actual figures.

It happens way more frequently than you may think. I used to work in the social service field. It's so depressing because of this man. Even today. It still runs rampant.
