I don't understand why this is even a function.

You can already have several charactors with the same name so what's the reason for rebirth?

i did it few times
at least when i still played some d3
trick is you reroll character that is non season for season and it saves things like stats achieves etc
so you can stick to your fav toon and play it again every new season
