Build is a asus x470 pro motherboard
16gb ram stock clocks
ryzen 1200g
gtx 1080ti (former rx580)

Issue started arising when switching from the EVGA 500W 80+ bronze to a Corsair 650 80+ bronze with the RX580 card. When booting into games it would crash under load. Assumed it was the graphics card since it was a former mining card. After switching over to a gtx 1080ti the issue persists. I have tried using the second PCI-e slot on the motherboard with no booting what so ever. Both cards were tested on another pc and work perfectly fine so they are ruled out. The pc works and runs perfectly fine with onboard graphics and will run rocket league at 1080 without crashing. Any ideas as to where to start with further diagnosis? I've basically narrowed it down to CPU/Mobo/PSU but have no real way to test them without just buying new parts to throw at it. Extensive research has left me running in circles with no real answers.

It has no issues booting up in slot #1 with the graphics card the issue only persists when booting into anything gpu intensive.

It's my buddies pc and I'm trying to help him diagnose it, update as of now is he switched the 8+6pin on the psu to another space and seems to be working fine at this point. The mystery machine is back up and running for the time being. Bad cables or bad connector?

He's saving up to buy my cpu when he's got some extra cash. I'm planning to go from my current ryzen 5 3600 to a 5th gen when they are more readily available. Scalpers have been ruining the game sadly though.

My build is similar with the same mobo/memory and a R5 3600+ a gigabyte 2070s. Had plans for upgrades before Christmas but as you know, prices are nuts.

I'll have him swap it out with another and report back in the next couple days, thank you!

that cpu with that gpu is pog

reinstall old psu and see if the issue persists. new one might be multiple 12v rails which could lead to the gpu overloading one of the rails shutting it down.

why it wouldn’t boot is weird but idk. the only thing that stayed constant was the new power supply

Update, motherboard was no good. He swapped over to a b550 msi board and no longer has any issues. And yes the 1080ti and ryzen 1200 is a god awful bottleneck. For whatever it's worth he's playing on my old aoc 1440p 144hz monitor and all he plays is rocket league (consistently getting ~250fps) so until he jumps into more cpu intensive games my guess is he won't be upgrading anytime soon.
