Marvelous show, just finished it. Absolutely shocked in how good Ann Taylor-joy did act.
I've enjoyed it big time!

Is this really that good? I've heard a few positive reviews, but it seemed more like girl power crap based off the trailer, versus an actually interesting show. I adore chess, I've played since I was a little kid and always a knack for it, so the content there intrigues me, but just not sure if I should pull the trigger and invest the time.

Also, is this a one-and-done season, or a typical Netflix show that'll be drug into the ground until it's shit before it's cancelled?

Yes it’s worth it. Major surprise for me

Yes Netflix will totally fuck it by making more seasons

So you have to understand it’s 1960s, and it’s about an orphan girl chess player. So there has to be some of that ‘girl power crap’ but it’s so minimal, almost non existent. It’s more ‘black and white’ than that(chess pun intended)... just a story of a chess prodigy, male or female(it really plays no roll in this show) overcoming countless piles of shit thrown at said player. Both in the game of chess and the game of life.

The show has so many levels.

I would have never checked out this show until I saw this thread and looked into it on my own. Loved every second

Can confirm the series was well done, minimal girl power scenes. A lot of technical analysis of moves. They do a good job of portraying the degrees of separation between a master level player, a grandmaster level player, and a world championship level player

Also the music in the show was excellent

Ok i think i didnt see the first episode at all. The Last (7) was in the top of the folder. I didn't notice, just thought it was an interesting way of telling the story - actually episode 7 made a real good first episode. Until i got to the last one i had no idea... Think it made the show even better tbh.

I'll watch the first episode sometime later. 😁

Started in this morning, first two episodes are solid. Enjoying it a lot and excited to see where it goes. Feels so real, even though it's clearly a work of fiction. Really well done.

this makes me affraid ... is it "too technical" if i dont know a lot about chess ?

for example, some years ago i watched the show Friday Night Lights and i absolutly enjoyed it when i didnt know anything about amercian football
