should cali be broken up?
it seems a little ridiculous to have literally zero vote count equity if you differ from the main voting lines

for a state with a larger population than my own former country,
it seems reasonable to split the electoral in regional districts or just an overall vote counted to split

if you do it in CA, you have to do it everywhere.

Yep, we need to break into 6 states so we can send 12 Democratic Senators to the U.S. Senate.

that isn't technically true, since we are currently doing it in 2 states and not in the other 48.

That being said, I'd be totally cool with breaking up every states EV like Maine and Nebraska already do.

why only california? why not texas, florida, or ohio? if your concern is genuine, you'd be in favour of making it a popular vote nationwide - that way everyone's vote would be relevant.

it'd have the added benefit that candidates don't spend a ridiculously disproporionate amount of time, effort, and billions of taxpayer money on policies to benefit a few thousand election-deciding voters in a couple of swing states, when that money and attention would be much more beneficial to spend elsewhere.

The states determine for themselves how their electoral votes are handled. The reason behind the winner takes all element is effectively so state leaders can maximize support for their preferred candidate.

Blue states by and large would never switch to a district-based EV spread, as they'd never win another Presidential election. Likewise, democrats in republican states would howl bloody murder when the Republicans set up the major cities as only 1 EV each, and the rural vote gained the majority of the power.

As it is currently arranged, the States' EV votes line up with the popular values of the state, with both city and rural voters represented. It works pretty well, mostly.
