(ok, he's not 60 in this pic, but he hasn't released any pics recently)

Anyway, I hontestly didn't think he'd make it this far.

After all that drug, tobacco and alcohol abuse, plus his health and weight problems, making it into his 60s almost seems like his most impressive achievement

The guy might be a cunt, and it's sad to see how he keeps showing the worst side of him, but he's also such a damn legend. A man of extremes... he's pure passion and such a unique character.

hb Diego!

undisputed #1 for me, all things considered. as a footballer that is ofc, not a human being...

btw, i read an interesting article today about maradona's idol, jorge 'magico' gonzález, a guy i had never heard of before.
unfortunately it's in german, but to anyone who's interested, here it is: https://www.spiegel.de/geschichte/diego-maradonas-vorbild-magico-der-fussballer-der-alles-konnte-aber-nicht-wollte-a-5d93068c-80ba-48a9-aee7-bac023722b79

zark might know him since he played in spain and apparently is somewhat of a folk hero there. very colourful character...

Yes, Mágico González is a very iconic player here in Spain. Even if he played in the 80s for a small club like Cádiz, he's still very well known today among the younger generations.

The guy was pure class with a ball at his feet, but an absolute party animal off the pitch. His lack of discipline prevented him from joining Europe's top clubs, despite clubs like Barça and Roma (CL runner up in 1984) admitting being openly interested in signing him (he was even invited to play a few friendlies with Barça, iirc). He even chose to remain in Cádiz even after relegation, simply because he loved the nightlife there and the godlike worship he received from the fans.

Of course he's a an absolute legend in Cádiz, where the fans would even protest against the club whenever Mágico was fined for showing up late/drunk to training sessions
