None because I never got involved with gangs. Not sure if you're aware but gangs tend to target rival gangs, rival dealers, etc not typically just random people for just being there.

The horror. People started successful lives in our country.
They've been doing that since the 1600s.
The only things impacted negatively by immigrants are previous immigrants wages, and a 1/2% long/short term drop off in wages for high school dropouts.
Everything else is a net boon statistically.



It took me far too long to realize that. It really helped when I started exchanging stories with a coworker. Their problems were infinitely worse than anything I had to put up with.
Coworker was smoking crack with his friends by 10, and saw his cousins brains splatter in a drug dispute by 12.
Meanwhile I was going to chuckie cheese.

I work for one of those corporations and I love that there are so many immigrants because they are just so much smarter than Americans. When I went to grad school, only 15% of my department was American. I'd much rather have the best of the best working here than some hillybilly heroin addict.

The point is theres a long way down from the life you are describing.

I grew up in bum fuck nowhere with my mom making $10 an hour. I get why youre resistant to acknowledging you had it good in any way, but theres way further down from where you grew up. Im imagining your school didnt have shootings, didnt have regular blackouts, didnt have mold on the walls, etc etc

A postdoc I work with is from India. He works 80 hours a week minimum. Hardest worker I've ever known. We have a grad student about to graduate who took 2 extra years because she was resistant to working over 40 and grew up with money. Shes a second gen immigrant from an Indian background.

Immigrants rule. Specifically first gen.
