Maybe because when they deport their companion, they know where they sent them. Parents aren't going to disappear once they're released, they're going to go get their kids. Coyotes are going to disappear. Keep in mind that a lot of children are NOT accompanied by their parents when they cross the border because the parents might already be here.
And of course we have to keep in mind that giving preferential treatment to children or groups with children incentivizes these exact issues, where families send their children across the border unaccompanied, or where coyotes tag along with children so that the whole group enjoys special protections.
Bleeding heart policies are what caused the number of children attempting dangerous border crossings to rise in the first place.
