On topic they don't seem to be that prevalent, this is the first incident since that Charlottesville March no?
No. Not even close.
49 deaths from white supremacist terrorism in 2018. Says nothing of the amount of plots that were foiled. From AtomWaffen and The Base before they suffered mass arrests at the start of this year. Or the foiled bombings by self-identified 'boogaloo boys' in LA in June and so on and so forth. Every other week there is another foiled plot by far-right, generally white supremacist, terrorists in the USA.
Far-right terrorism is by far the greatest terrorist threat to the US right now and that threat is increasing year on year. With the growth of the militias and QAnon (which has also gained ground within some militias and paramilitary forces) I expect this election to be one of the most violent periods we have seen in a long time. My personal prediction? Another OKC bombing is right around the corner and indeed only a month ago a 'survivalist' with a truck full of fertiliser was arrested after shooting at the officer who stopped him in a frankly haunting parallel to the case of McVeigh.
