Wanted to maybe get a wrist watch thread up if any of you were into the hobby or interested in it? I got into wrist watches in high school and am constantly rotating pieces in and out of my collection. I’m active in various forums but wanted to check in here for an excuse to be a bit more active :p
The watch community is super niche and not for everyone; we can simply just check our phones these days making watches more of an accessory vs necessity, but it’s still a very fun, unique, and (in)expensive hobby depending on your personal taste. Price tags aren’t a reflection of quality, making it really fun to try different large and micro brands in the industry to find what works for you. You can find a watch you love and change the strap 100+ times to make it feel brand new again and the community on Reddit and a few other forums is very welcoming + informative.
Like any hobby, snobbery and ego-flexing exists but for the most part a $20 Casio tells the same time as a $20k Rolex and is equally respected by anyone whose actually into the hobby for the right reasons.

I was into watches from kindergarten to elementary, I had like 2-3 mostly Casio 30$ digital qvartz watches. My last watch ~20 years ago I really loved it, It was a Casio one and it had a black clockface and digital frame built in its lower part. I remember it was useful when we went to greece and I could set the digital clock to local time and left the analog arrows on my hometime. When the strap and pin broke off it, I was really sad and wanted to be repaired but it was too expensive then, so I left it, and I was watchless for like 20 years
For a while one of my colleague get me hooked on again, and last year I started to watch for a nice one and soon one catched my eyes, but kept checking others and thinking again and again but two months ago I finally bought it!
It is an Orient Star 50 Open Heart model, a Japan automatic watch with Saphire glass, 50 hours power reserve with indicator and stainless steel strap. I was really lucky and got it for the same price as the previous 40hours reserved one. I think the webshop owner forgot to upgrade the price for a year or so
