Passed over the year prior.

Taken in the first round. Little interest from other teams. Why draft him in the first round?

If CBJ likes the guy I don't see why you would not wait until the 2nd round or even further.

Gonna be even worse now that brackett is gone, majority of the Canucks picks are from CHL and the best that came out of it so far is virtanen and mccaan. Then there's juolevi, Kole Lind, Jett Woo and DiPietro. 46.5% of their picks are from there, which is about 5% more than the league average.

so... there's couple of beasts in the 2023 draft

Bedard and Michkov.

Michkov is a 15yr old russian kid playing against older dudes in MHL. He scored 70 goals, 39 assists for 109 pts in U16 league lmao.
He currently has 19pts in 16games in the MHL.
In comparison to this year's deep ass 1st rd draft, the highest picked russian was Amirov picked 15th OA, and he scored 36pts in 30 games U16, 3pts in 12 games in MHL.

Bedard is from North Vancouver, being compared to Crosby/McDavid since like 3 years ago. He destroyed U18 with 43g 41a for 84pts in 36games.
He earned exceptional status in the WHL, joining Tavares, Ekblad, McDavid, Day, Veleno, and Wright. Will Bedard and Wright join the first 3 or the last 2 busts? lolol

yeah him and bedard both got the exceptional status. Considering the last 2 were busts, it kinda lost its meaning. I wonder if these 2 bring it back, or both fail or only 1 make the hype.

Michkov is crazy though, i haven't seen a 15yr old get 19pts in 16games in the MHL or 109pts in just 26 fucking games as a 14yr old rofl
Podkolzin was hyped as hell and he only had 39pts in 29games in U16, 8pts in 12 MHL games although he played in freakin KHL, VHL, and MHL all in the same season which can fuck with the development.
