This whole statement is coming from the false premise that material things bring us happiness, and that is exactly the reason so many people struggle with depression and mental health issues but feel like they can’t talk about it.

this times the force of a thousand suns.

Then you add on words from a psychologist or the great Buddha himself,

"Happiness should not be a goal, it should be a side benefit of reaching your goals"

I believe that is manipulation, that material things don’t bring us happiness. The ones in power want to keep everything the same because they don’t want other wealthy people to emerge. They will try to convince that having more money = less happiness. But money runs the world. Money is pretty much everything. It is more logical that if you have more of it, then you are more likely to make your life better. Therefore, become more happy.

I believe the opposite is true. The idea that money and possessions will bring happiness manipulates the have nots to pour everything they have into work, to sacrifice relationships, family, and hobbies, to work longer and harder for minimal pay in a system that is actually designedly stacked against social mobility, all for the dream that one day they'll be happy, when the secret to happiness is actually contentment with what you already have.

thats crazy and definitely manipulation. That is the reason wby so many are unhappy. Because they accept being poor. They accept being controlled by the system. They don’t think outside the box and want to become a business owner. They never believe they can be anything other than a worker. You can’t be rich or wealthy being someone that works for somebody else (exceptions like nba players are not the rule). They have a losers’ mentality.

You assume that 'poor' people aren't joyful and content with their lives.

Most of the world is 'poor' by any standard definition.

kind of egregious

I know it’s deeper than points of view. I know people have been manipulated to think a certain way. The government, society, friends, family, and television have been manipulating the youth since the beginning.

I know that they were manipulated that being poor is okay and that they should be happy. And because they are also sheep, they believe it without question.
