Are you using MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X1, to set a decent fan curve?
Do you blow the dust out of the vid card occasionally?
Fans and filters on the case clean?

Well assuming you're keeping the ambient temperature somewhat cool, then it's possibly time to redo the thermal paste.pads on that vid card.
There are many youtube guides for that. 81F isn't THAT bad for a max. temp.

You're not giving us a lot of info to work with bro. Is that idle or load temp? What is the make and model of the vid card - exactly.
Others may recognize that game, but I don't. :)

The more info we have, the easier it is to help.

Let me know what info you need to help me easier.

Under load it runs 80c+

Idle runs at 39c

Like I said...it's probably the thermal compound/pads starting to get old and dried out.
At 100% fan speed though, it should be running cooler than that. That is what it should look like at maybe 65% fan speed.

I would say you have two options...

1. Plan to tear apart the vid card and redo the thermal compound/paste
2. Or plan on a new vid card in your future.

What games are you playing?

At 1080p with 100% fan speed the card should be running much cooler.

Is it even worth upgrading the video card on this pc due to the other components being old?

If i decide to tear it apart, what pads or thermal paste should I use? I don't have any.
