Leaving one's comfort zone and getting to know the Other is almost always beneficial. It helps breed understanding.

Just look at civil rights activist Daryl Davis ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Davis ). Obviously at the end of the day he can't convert every KKK member, but he went out of his comfort zone to understand them despite obvious differences. Same goes for conservative activist James Alex Fields Jr., who went out of his way to engage BLM protesters some years back.
