I found my old laptop its a HP pavilion dv7-4878nr outta know where it just wont boot on or turn on i tried most things take out battery etc. anyone got any more ideas? if not is there anything i can use for spare parts?

Maybe check ebay for the same make/model, for spare parts.

Only thing you didn't mention was the CMOS battery. Might wanna replace that.


As you've already guessed...it's probably an issue with the AC or battery. Aka, a power issue.

yeah im deff thinking its power issue is this sumthing i could buy a part n replace myself?

IF it's a problem in the power circuits, you should be able to fix it, assuming you have decent soldering skills and a decent soldering iron.
It could be a small PCB that needs replaced or a teeny diode in a bridge rectifier circuit.

I think your idea of looking for a broken one for spare parts is probably the best idea.

Another option would be to find an old grey haired guy that still works in a mom & pop electronics repair shop.


I would try the CMOS battery first though. Cause, without a functioning BIOS a computer is little more that a glorified door stop.

so i reset the CMOS same thing laptop turns on but black screen any other ideas? i liked having this laptop as a movie laptop with the big screen n beats audio so im tryin to save it lol

Have you tried it with another screen attached?
