Which processor is better? I haven't built a new rig in like 7 years and I am running an Intel i5-4690K processor.

I was looking into the i7-9700K ($380), i9-9900K ($530) (Coffee Lake) and the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X ($336), Ryzen 9 3900X ($432). (Newegg prices)

I have been using Intel for a while now, just noticed that AMD has caught up to Intel in regards to performance. I mostly game with my desktop and play Path of Exile. Was thinking GeForce RTX 2080 ti as well for GPU.

Has AMD really surpassed Intel in regards to processing power for those price points? Reading a lot of mixed articles saying i9 is best for gaming.

Let me know your thoughts.

3800X or 10700K will work fine.

Wouldnt bother wasting money on the 9700k or 9900k now cause intel got a reality check with their new skus

10700k = 9900k for cheaper

Ended up going with this for the build.

Intel i7-10700K
EVGA GeForce GTX 2080 ti ftw3 Ultra
H115i Corsair Liquid Cooler AIO
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra
Samsung EVO 970 M2 SSD
G Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16 GB (32GB) 3600 DDR4 CL 16 RAM
Corsair 570X Black Crystal Series Case
Corsair RM1000 80+ Gold Power Supply (From my previous PC)
Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz 27-inch Monitor (2560x1440p)

intel 10th gen is Pentium D 2020 edition, just a rushed panicked hot and inefficient response to AMD.

Big latency problems with the 10600k because they wanted to maximize 10900k yields by using 10 core silicon.
Also present on the 10700k but to a lesser degree
and 10900k just seems like they failed to optimize all cores to the 10-core ring bus
both the 10600k and 10700k would be better off if they had native 6/8 core ring buses though.

It's a fine cpu but I do not regret skipping this gen.

and to be fair amd has its fair share of latency problems too... and 4 core ccx design? single core can only access up to 16mb of l3 cache at any time, cross-ccx cache latency is slower than accessing memory because a dirty cache line being evicted and read into the other core has to be flushed into system memory before it can happen. big RIP on zen architecture design. A single intel core can access all L3 (smart cache) that's why their single thread performance is so fantastic compared to amd especially when looking at the higher end parts...

All in all I'm more looking forward to golden cove/gracemont and maybe meteor lake/AM5. Zen released too early and still has kinks and Intel are still refreshing a 5 y/o architecture/node and scaling it further than it was meant to go to try and keep pace with the superior scaling of AMD's SDF and SMT implementation...

Intel if you're looking for top performance in gaming and willing to pay a premium and get worse performance everywhere besides gaming.

AMD for literally anything else.
