Man Nox was such a great game. Totally forgot about that one.

Perfect D4 would be D2's itemization and everything + D1 atmosphere + D3 combat/small QOL like global stash/holding ctrl + leftclick item into stash/walking on gold to pick it up

But they won't do that. They need to sell it to the masses which are mostly people with the attention span of a squirrel monkey who will quit the game after 1-2 months anyway and move on to the next big popular thing.

D2 + Skyrim

rubbish leveling and items but the gameplay and the fun it takes your breath away

A blend of D2 and the few things they did get right on D3. Plus stay away from the "stylized" art that many (most?) the Diablo fans hated. I am hopefully optimistic about what little bit I have seen of D4 so far but then I was hopeful about D3 too. ARG!

I agree 100% Even if they kept same graphics as long as the game had substance would play it. There are players who like colourful animations and much wow factor. But after awhile that fizzles out and the game becomes what it originally was complete pile of dudu. D2 has a reputation and a large fanbase would love a game which provides for that original gen.

Hopefully they don't make us have to build Fury, Hatred, Spirit or whatever else it was to use other skills. Found that Really annoying in D3 for some reason. Shouldn't be limited by the game to spam whatever skills you want but the limitations should come from the player. Mana charms, Energy points, attribute points etc. just like in D2.
