Got insight on my merc and some crappy gear on my nec.

Thought about going full sommuner + Poison Nova.

I'm slaying my way to Baal Hell with no assistance, more or less.

Summoner works well, and I have tested the poison-summoner hybrid build extensively. However it is not well suited for a single player walkthrough as you rely on + all skills to make it effective for hell.

I would instead recommend just going full summoner:

20 mastery
20 raise skeleton
1pt summon resist and 1pt revive (7 total)
1pt decrepify (4 total)
15-20 corpse explosion
1-5 amplify damage
Remaining points revive

Wouldnt the few points i put into Poison Nova do decent damage compared to the skill points used?

No

It's not enough for hell. You would need to invest about 40 pts into poison (20 nova 20 explosion) to make it effective, which is still only dealing about 1500 dmg.

In general hybrid builds rely more heavily on gear, meaning they are not as effective with self-found gear only.

Yes I think 20pts nova after you max raise skeleton / skeleton mastery would be OK.
