I leave my PC on 24/7 so idle power consumption matters a whole lot for me

But still, your idle consumption is probably like 50 watts, so the difference there is potential fractions of a watt. Literally a few cents a year. I would take decades for that return on investment. Only time I see using higher than gold worth right now is rigs that run full load 24/7 like mining or servers.
