Easy to forget about this since it's been so long since S2

Posting this as a heads up and will start dropping my thoughts as I watch it

8 episodes in and the quality didn't drop off from S2 at all. If you liked S2, you will eventually get around to catching up on S3.

This feels like Breaking Bad and House of Cards rolled into one. Instead of a single protagonist rising to the top (like in BB or Scarface) it is a couple (like the power couple in House of Cards).

It feels like they are setting up for an 8 season arc in which the family takes over the cartel.

I"m just glad that this season actually resolved the main arcs of S3 and set up S4 to feel like a new chapter.

By contrast, S2 had left pretty much all the main plotlines hanging at the end and it was really frustrating. If S3 had ended before they got off the plane, it would have been just as bad.

Shifting allegiances sets us up with new factions going into S4. It's definitely keeping me on my toes.

I'm halfway through. When I watched the recap, I realized I didn't remember a lot of the past season, so I rewatched season 2 first lol.

Think so? Seems more and more like Marty is trying to be done with this shit. I guess it depends on how much they want to stretch it out, but I'd rather they end on 4-5 with a high-note, possibly with a negative outcome for the Byrd parents, or with them working with the FBI and figuring their shit out.

You're probably right though, I just hope it doesn't go to shit if they go that route, which it inevitably will.

I'm not saying that I think the show will go 8 seasons. But rather, the way the arc is going, it has the feeling of "upward mobility" for the family. The middlemen who had previously connected them to the cartel (Helen, Del) are killed off clearing the way for the parents to get friendly with the next level up. Next season, Marty will become Navarro's "right hand man" which sets the stage for him to embed himself at that leve.

Also, The way they are treating Jonah almost has the feeling of the origin story of a supervillain. The arc feels very wide, kinda like Carl in Walking Dead.
