Its exposing our health care system as an embarrassment. Vietnam has reacted better than us in detection and treatment. They are a country we lost to communism lol.
a mixture of our healthcare system and also the lack of goods we create here. or more accurately can create here in an emergency. we've spent too many decades outsourcing everything to china without building a stockpile in case we needed to cut off contact. many of the items we're short on dont even have best by dates. we should have been stockpiling sanitizer, masks, etc ever since H1N1 hit.
one of the biggest issues i see is no coherent organizational network between care providers. if we ever move to universal healthcare that will be needed, so we should start there. something to help facilitate inventories, labs with hospitals, and facilitate restocking in times of shortages. we can do this without socializing all of medicine, and if we ever hope to have a socialized system it will be needed anyways. should be a bipartisan ask, but im sure it will get politicized none the less.
