Not super tech friendly with motherboards.

Long story short, monitor keyboard get no power, interior fans workings, cpu fan working. Psu fan working. Half my graphics card fans are spinning and others are not.

Thought maybe a psu problem, bought a new higher watt psu and same issue still.

Now thinking something is wrong with my
Mobo.
Currently it’s a msi 970 gaming ATX

I’m wondering if anyone knows a cheap alternate mobo like this one for 150$ or less.

Would get a new one but, any online stores in Canada are sold
Out of the msi 970 gaming ATX

Help me please :(

Checked the ram and reseated in many
Times and no change.
Spoke to local computer shop and they’re suspecting a mobo failure as well.

I mean only shit pc place would give diagnoses like that without seeing it/testing it first.
fact is half your gpu fans are spinning is odd, might even be gpu.

yea maybe update bois

half the fans on gpu does mean anything tho, many cards will have 1 fan or 0 fans running at idle

but not saying its not the gpu, if everything is running and no display it could be... tried running on onboard?

See I thought maybe it would be the gpu as well, but that still doesn’t explain why my keyboard and mouse are getting no power

Pretty sure MSI isn't giving BIOS updates for a board with a chipset from 2012.

I would have done a full board inspection.

That means taking the VRM heatsink and bridge heatsink and chipset heatsink off.

I would be looking at all the chips and traces for electrical damage with a handheld microscope
I would also be looking for bulging caps and burnt out or bad mobo LEDs

If you really don't wanna deal with it just check used deals for a 990FX motherboard

Also your front panel might be shorted if you're turning it on that way.
Did you try jumping it without the front panel connected?

Those go bad before motherboards do.

I’m nowhere near experienced enough to try any of this tbh, I get the basics with diagnosing some things and replacing etc.

You seem extremely knowledgeable so do you have any recommendations for another motherboard like this one that’s a ATX size?

The Sabertooth 990FXA or Gigabyte 990FXA are both good boards but lets try fixing yours first. Both these steps are fairly easy.

/e make sure the computer is unplugged before you do any of this and plug it back in before you jump the power pins

Now checking the front panel is easy my man
I'll help.
I also want you to replace the 3volt coin battery while we are at it.
Im assuming you know how to set a computer on its side and open the side panel. If not this might not be worthwhile.

Pull the 3V Bios Battery out by pulling on the tab next to the battery where the arrow is pointing around. A toothpick works. The battery should pop up a little bit so you can pull it out.
You want to put the new one face up plus side.

Then you want to pull out all the small connectors labeled on the Front Panel Con

After you've replaced the battery and removed the FPC then jump the power pins with a screw driver.

You might have to jump between each pin because some boards can do them a little different.
Nothing after that points to a faulty trace meaning the board is bad.

Again if you dont really wanna do any of this i recommended a couple boards.
