The VP isn't running any department or making the key policy decisions. Also note that I wrote "... almost all senior cabinet..."

just laughing at a bigot who wants to have their race cake and eat it too, that's all.

I wonder how long you will continue to use "but at least they're better than Trump" to excuse stupid and/or pandering behavior from the Biden administration.

Also... can we talk about how they're perpetuating gender stereotypes by satisfying their female quota with an all-female communications team while almost all senior cabinet and advisor positions are male?
That's like Star Trek back in the day taking pride in showing the first black female in a main cast role, but of course she was only there to do telephone duty.

Same principle here. The women from the communications team can act as the friendly face selling the public on the decisions made by the men.
So not only is it silly pandering, it's also half-hearted and just trying to create an illusion of gender parity.

The past 4 years is relevant when evaluating the new president. When Biden or his administration screw up, I'm going to acknowledge it, and put it into a broader context, considering the previous administration was one of the most corrupt and incompetent in history.

Symbolic gestures like making all the communications staff female doesn't appeal to me, and it doesn't really offend me either. I'm not that invested in identity politics either way.

VP is a woman. DNI is a woman(a first). UN ambassador a woman. Treasury Secretary a woman(a first). Your criticism doesn't make a lot of sense.

Treasury is the only truly influential office from this list. But I'll give you that, it's a big one.

Regarding your first point: throughout Trump's presidency, his critics rightfully slammed it whenever his supporters tried to make excuses for something shitty he had done via "b-b-but Obama/Hillary"-whataboutism. I'm gonna hold the Biden administration to the same standard. How corrupt or incompetent the previous administration was is irrelevant when assessing the quality of the decisions and policies made by the Biden administration. Context is not really relevant here. Only gauging policy in relative terms opens the doors for a race to the bottom. You surely agree that "the most corrupt and incompetent administration in modern history" is not the appropriate standard by which to judge a new administration.

That sort of whataboutism is different from acknowledging the wrongdoing, and then explaining that it happened under the previous administration multiple times, and perhaps posters here never condemned it, or Republican politicians never cared.

What happened under previous presidencies is relevant though. The norm that major presidential candidates(and presidents) release their tax returns makes it all the more damning that Trump has refused to do so. We don't start every 4 years with a blank slate as if what other presidents did before has no relevance on the current president. Again, I'm not advocating the ridiculous whataboutism that the cult has engaged in for 4 years.

tldr:
comparing Biden with the previous administration to make him look better = relevant and norm-upholding
comparing Trump with the previous administration to make him look better = ridiculous cult whataboutism

Cult whataboutism pretty much never includes a real acknowledgement of wrongdoing. It's an attempt to deflect, not provide context.

Also, a lot of the cult whataboutism was basically arguing "look, Trump is only as bad as Hillary or Obama were on X issue". I don't foresee that kind of defense for Biden... it'll be more like, "Biden's wrong action here is not even in the same ballpark as what happened under Trump".

You’re wrong. Here is CNN telling us how this event shows Biden good, Trump bad.

Contrasting Biden doing the right thing with Trump's insane 4 years is going to be an everyday theme. Better get used to it.
