Isopropyl alcohol will dry in like... 5 mins.

IF you did get in under the actual GPU chip, the problem will be, that it will have screwed up the thermal paste or pad. You will have to replace the thermal paste or pad.

Yeah... I know what a GPU is. :)

"Under the GPU is fine. I was talking about the surface of the GPU. I didn't realize from your OP you had it all the way apart yet.

In this case, like I said, it will dry without assistance... in like 5 mins.

/e Isopropyl is non conductive and dries very fast. That's why we use it on electronics. With the added canned air...it should be fine already. :)

The only real danger with 90%+ isoproply is when you've let the container sit open for DAYS. The open container allows the Isopropyl to evaporate and thus "lowers" the percentage. That's what the percentage IS. The percent isoproply to... water. If you let it sit open long enough...then it will have a much higher percentage of water...which is not good.

As I'm sure you know... water (in most cases) is conductive and dries very slowly.

You should be fine. :)

/ee I checked the recent posts in your profile, so I now remember that you are the one with the thermal pad questions. It all makes sense now. :D

/eee Being as how it's Christmas Eve, you need to work on something RED as well as something GREEN.

I only use a can of compressed air and soft brush. I'm reluctant to use alcohol.

I had no choice the thing was caked with nikotine yellow oily resadue and manny people use isopropal it just needs to be 99% and left for 24 hours to dry

some people just use soap and water wich i think is a bit sketchy but given enough time to dry should be ok i gues?

i remember i cleaned my mobo one time with water and soap but i left it for like a week to dry

You're on the right track. The highest % Alchohol you can find.

Consider low lint/ lint free cloths. Coffee filters work in a pinch since it sounds like you're gonna have to scrub the whole thing.
