Idk.

I really like Mackinnon, but its hard to put any player above Mcdavid right now. However, i think if theres any one player in the league right now that could challenge McDavid for the title of best player, it would be MacKinnon.

I think there is some legitimacy to what the original poster is suggesting.

I disagree with him, but it is not as far fetched as it seems. Mackinnon is a top 5 player without question.

He held down the fort with both his line mates out for an extended period and kept up his scoring pace despite facing more coverage from the position.

He is one of those rare players who can take on different line mates and make them better without sacrificing his own effectiveness.

He is close to Mcdavid. Last year in the playoffs he put on a clinic and dominated Calgary. That was the moment that showed he was one of the best.

All that said though Mcdavid still has him beat. However the gap is not that big in my opinion.

Ask any GM who they would put on their team as a first pick and you will see that every manager selected Mcdavid. He is the best. Straight up.

The argument over ice time reducing Mackinnons output is a poor one to take in my eyes. If anything I think Mcdavid and Draisatl would put up even more points if they played a minute or two less.

I understand they are relied upon heavily but I think you would get more quality minutes out of them if they played a minute or two less. That is why I don't buy the ice time argument. At this point I don't think its advantageous.
