Yes this is good advice too. If you see a monster cast amp damage, fanaticism, or conviction on you then alarm bells should immediately go off in your head and you should back out and go very slow.

In reality there are only a fixed number of things that will kill you. Dolls and souls are obvious due to the burst damage, other less obvious things are like a pack of extra strong multiple shot archers shooting a volley of arrows at you.

Including as many defensive properties as you can goes a long way (res, dr, sorb, mdr/pdr, defense, block chance, fhr).
