a shootout raged in New Jersey for at least an hour with hundreds of shots being fired between police and two suspects holed up, first at a kosher bodega and then at a school nearby
not many details are confirmed yet, but police scanner and videos from the incident show a complete warzone with nonstop gunfire
at least 5 are confirmed dead so far, 4 in the bodega, 1 officer. Possibly more victims in the school, unclear if dead or wounded or not

According to this report, it's up to 6 dead (the one police officer, the two suspects, and three civilians in the bodega).

Also, it appears that the shootout did not expand to any nearby schools (although many schools went on full lockdown). The suspects seem to have been killed in the bodega, where they first took cover. We'll see what happens as more information comes out.

The details of the story coming in are clearly very complicated- some kind of homicide and/or drug investigation or suspicion, with a police officer shot and killed when he approached the suspects.
However the police also believe that the jewish deli was intentionally targeted, and not random, and the attack on those inside was premeditated to some degree.
Whether that's due to previous relationship or a hate crime, unclear. Likewise, no details on the attackers and their motive beyond that they were black
and its still unclear whether there was some kind of terrorist angle involving pipe bombs or explosives in a uhaul.

/e its quite possible it was some kind of sting weapons sale operation based on the hijacked truck with 'explosives' and plainclothes officer dead
