Budget: 800
More specific use (what games, what programs): every day user. no games
Planned time until purchase: immediate
Do you need an Operating System?: win 10 64 pro
Do you have any specific preferred components?: i5-9600k
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: no
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: minor OC in current build
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: disregard N/A
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): NE USA

this is for my mother. it's a bit overkill, but she's expecting a machine to preform well in another 10 years.

i'm wondering if someone can point out any cheaper options to this build, while sticking with reputable brands and quality. (only new condition)
otherwise i'm rather satisfied with it as is.

Low profiles are not ideal for oc'ing.
I'd suggest it for stock but even then they run hotter.
You want it to last then heat is a concern for you.

i didn't change everything, but i like the compromise.

the actual case will be white
the RAM will be black

i still could use a better case. the peripherals layout is pretty bad on the one i have picked. i'd like a mesh/open front side for airflow though. (still preferably white)
it won't be cleaned nearly as often as mine is. it's something i'm looking into though.

I changed the power supply to one that WILL last 10 years.

Strange build... it's almost like you expect her to one day say...here you take this, or hey you ungrateful son, I need a vid card. Cause without a vid card, you could get by with a 500w PSU. So I'm assuming a vid card, down the road...

my father wants intel cpu. he went to a tech shop and they got him all excited when they said things like database and i5.
so he's picking out crap pre-builts based on the fact they say i5 or 32gb memory. it's been a headache trying to explain the differences.
i said i would build one under $1k with much longer warranty and better quality parts. and confidently say the chances of it lasting longer are high.

the i5-9600k is at a good price, so that's why i'm just sticking with that.

i already have some gpu's to add in that i'm just going to donate.

Well... that's why I picked a power supply with a 7 yr warranty, and a bit more wattage.
