That was exactly what Diablo 2 was when it first came out in 2000: Classic. Patch 1.00. It is very different now with LOD. A lot of things that we are now familiar with came several years later: exceptional uniques (and then, way later, elite uniques), jewels and runes (and with it, crafting), runewords, anni and finally, torch and more new, even-more-powerful runewords.
I remember when HOTO and Enigma first came out and I remember thinking HOLY SHIT, and thinking that I'd never get those runes because they were so rare back then. I remember ist being the main currency in trading, and for some funny reason, ists were worth more than higher runes. Oh and don't forget those new sets (Immortal King, Aldur's, etc.). Druid was my favorite class then (still is today) and I remember drooling over the Aldur's set when I first saw it listed on Arreat Summit. I was a noob then. Oh, how much the game has changed since then!
Diablo 4 should start out the same way: basic, simple. It doesn't need to have EVERYTHING in the game ready at launch (for EXAMPLE: runes or jewels) Some exciting things an be added later. Keep it simple for now. It'd be easier to work out the bugs if it were simple at launch. They can play with new ideas to add to the game later. For now, focus on the most important things in the game (itemization being #1 by far). If we have a good foundation to start with, we can build a really great game up from there.
i agree how you say this here, i remember my noob days and wearing a isenhearts armor and collecting the sword and sigons 2 pieces at a time cuz it was tough to come by, and running a bowzon running a shealed burzia doin nm meph runs with multi shot everyone had a barb, zon, necro or pally, then occy came out and nova sorce's flooded out with grandfatherd barbs turned into Ith bowazons and barbs ,into bugged occy rings to hovac jewels to "the rust storm" to 1.10 Teleportin pallys??? WoW! anyways of u could keep up lol
