and you dont need elite gear as its ez to get nice res with a nec (you dont really need +2 amu and soj(s) cuz amp+CE detroyes everything with base points)

A good mage plate grim helm and grim shield gunna cost you a nice penny sir

I like making all my chars for free from self found and shopped gear. If I wanna get fancy I just make it on jamella with single player to save the masterbation energy for better cause

My rule is if I cant find it in less than 20 mf runs then I don't need it

obviously you could use cheaper gear with less def, as long as you get max res and hit the breakpoints youd be able to kill just fine
