We know he's a DPOY front runner being able to guard any position at an incredibly high level, but is he a chance to win the 6th man of the year award from what you've seen early in this season? He's slowly adding a respectable outside shooting game to his repitoire which has always been his biggest flaw and is making some big time plays and shots.

I'm not sure who else is in the conversation for the award, Lou Williams probably?

(For the record he's started in 5 and come off the bench in 5 so far this season, which is right on the edge of eligibility but expect him to go back to the bench when Hayward returns)

Smart should indeed be 6th man if his defensive play continues at this level. Don't think it's sustainable obv....

The Hayward injury also forces him to start many games, so that's also going to hurt his 6th man legitimacy

That's great and all, and I appreciate defense as much as anyone and I think Smart is a great defender no doubt...

But 6th man award doesn't give a shit about solid defense rofl.

Nobody is taking it from Lou, sorry. He's averaging 23/6/4 this season off the bench, the award is his to lose. He averaged 20/5/3 last season, and 23/5/3 the season before. The man is a professional bucket machine off the bench who closes games and plays starter minutes (playing 33 MPG this season).
