How long do you see yourself driving on the tires, and do you get snow/ice

3-4 years?

And pretty much never, but snow could happen a 2-4 weeks out of the entire year

Well, if you don't gotta worry about the weather too much, I'd say it doesn't matter a whole lot, as long as it's not hankook

a taller tire will have more give and allow for a smoother ride.

I don’t think a 50 would give you too harsh a ride but if you feel like the 55 is already rough for you stick with stock. As for brands I always recommend generals, they are a sub brand of continental, are at a solid price point and the tread pattern isn’t too aggressive so they are fairly quiet and don’t wear poorly. I also recommend avoiding Firestone but that’s just my personal preference.

Firestone indy 500 might be the best of cheap tire currently
