So a couple months ago I made a X570 Ryzen 5 build and I spent about 1200 USD on which is my main PC now.
Literally everything brand new and nothing used.

This month I decided to shop around and use Ebay as a value proposition.
I ended up using last years parts to make something that ended up being considerably cheaper than what I built for myself.
Most of this is used/renewed.

Cougar MX330 Mid Tower Case (Used Amazon)
This case used on amazon gave me a pretty decent value at 40 USD.
With 2 fans up front and two top exhaust fans I bought into a mid tower case with good air flow at a nice price point.
The case was used and the packaging was a little banged up but its backed by amazon for up to 90 days.

Asus Crosshair VII Hero (Renewed Amazon)
This piece is a solid motherboard. The crosshair series has been the premier line for AMD processors for a long time now.
Amazon renewed had this board at 140 USD. This board is solid and I can even flash it to the new Ryzen 3000 later if needed.
The only downside is I miss out on PCIe 4.0 which comes in one year later on the X570.

AMD Ryzen 2600 Processor (Used Ebay)
Works best with the X470 platform. I can flash a 3600 in later if I ever want to.
Last years processor but still performs similarly to its newer cousin at an even 100 USD.

EVGA 850 BQ 80+ Bronze Power Supply (Used Ebay)
This one was pretty easy. I always go with at least a bronze power supply for single card systems.
I prefer to use at least gold rated if im doing anything SLI but at 39 USD this is a solid semi modular power supply with room for upgrading.

Adata 16GB DDR4 2400mhz 2x8GB (Used Ebay)
Found a couple cheap white sticks for 41 USD. Probably could have spent another 10 bucks and bought something new and faster.
Im sure these will run at higher speeds if I play with overclocking as I haven't tested it yet.

Asus Dual GTX 1070 (Used Ebay)
The GTX 1070 is still a nice mid range card that can play all your modern titles.
I only tested this with Doom on a generic 1440p monitor but it ran at the 144fps V-sync very easily.
I felt this was a decent buy at 185 USD.

Adata SU655 240gb SSD (Amazon New)
People dont know how to give a good deal on used storage drives so i opted for a new one here.
This one came in at 29 USD.

Seagate Barracuda 2TB (Amazon Renewed)
Nice hard drive with a 7200rpm / 256mb cache. The hard drive isn't the fastest but it gets the job done.
Above average hard disk drive for 37 USD.

I bought a 3pin arctic fan pack for the 5 fan slots and just used the stock wraith stealth cooler for the processor.
About 700 bucks sunk with 2 shipping charges and taxes.

I actually like the rig and would have probably used this had I not already made a computer.

I have seen some newbies make power supply case errors where they buy a closed off power supply block design like the Cougar has.
The power supply mounts upside down and uses the vent on the underside. Some of these guys put these cases down on carpet and it sinks into the carpet and burns the power supply out as it gets choked off.
If someone else does a build like this please dont set it down in deep carpet.

/E I wanna see if anyone else here has done used builds. Post them if you have them.

Most of my builds are used, most recent being my wife’s setup.

Cougar mx330 with plexiglass window ($30 new)
120gb Adata ssd (new for $18)
Lepa exllusion 240 aio (new for $40)
Corsair PSU 650w (new for $40)

X58 motherboard used/broken ($50 ebay, fixed now obvi)
Xeon x5650 used (sub $10 ebay)
6x4gb 24gb kit ram used ($30 ebay)
All used gg peripherals for ~$20 from Goodwill
Used 2tb hdd ($20 ebay)
R9 280x used ($80 ebay)

Most of the used stuff I bought forever ago, pretty sure there are much better deals to be had.

it's way better for low end/ temp gear or just good pricing

i got a used gtx 950 and it was in amazing condition. re sold it and yea.. as long as u keep it in good condition and it's not really ancient tech it's no problemo. plus people still buy nintendo 64's.

the gtx 1070 I bought was so caked with dirt I had to take the shroud off the pcb; remove the fans and give it an alcohol bath

the thermal compound on it was almost fused on the chip I had to lightly scrape it off with a razor
