i guess i am also considering the atom amp... this is a big purchase and i can't decide...
so the atom has preamp outputs, which i can use for my speakers, but id be afraid that the volume knob would damage the speakers?

I thought theres a difference between preamp outputs and the ones on the sdac/o2? the more I read about the potential channel imbalance in the sdac/o2 at low setting made me worried. not too sure if lowering the volume on windows first and then raising the gain on the sdac/o2 would really fix the potential channel imbalance, but didnt want to worry about it. comparing it to the atom, i ended up getting the atom.
super hard decision as they both seem extremely close in their reviews and specs... main difference was the atom has plastic case and more power, but the extra power isnt really needed for the headphones I have now. and the sdac/o2 has a dac with it.

i think ill try out the atom and then potentially get the Massdrop x Grace Design Standard DAC Balanced if i feel i need a dac and considering the price point.... its an extra $150. I also somewhat liked that the atom seems like a good idea so I can use it for more power hungry headphones in the future if needed and the ability to get a different dac over time if needed

any other DAC to consider? looks like the grace DAC has amazing reviews at its price.
