Trump is the best thing to happen to the left. A Clinton presidency would have been 4 years of screaming Republicans and nothing getting done followed by a competent Republican administration for 8-12 years. If there was a conspiracy theory that Trump was put in office by a communist plot to destroy the right forever I'd subscribe to it.

while i think that's possible i think its more likely that Trump is an era, rather than a direction, and will come with a return to normalcy when he leaves office. both a return to normalcy for the left and right. we're already seeing how the moderates in the DNC are rising with only simple math and callouts of unrealistic plans. once trump leaves we'll hear the jibes of "yeah but you supported Trump when he did _____" but i think policy will somewhat normalize.

i wouldn't. republicans have a remarkable track record of ignoring even mindblowing levels of hypocrisy and double standards (supreme court, executive orders, voter fraud...). they simply play by different rules. doesn't mean that trump isn't damaging the party significantly, but i'd be shocked if he actually destroyed it for good. all the cultists will simply claim they were never big fans of his behaviour and ideology, or outright deny they ever supported him, and no one will care in the slightest. all the spineless crooks in the house and senate, that won't even stand up against the most blatant cases of nepotism, corruption, and incompetence, will just pretend that they tried their best to limit the damage in the background, and no one will call them out for their bs...
